November 26, 2024. Thanks to Danko Arlington’s recent introduction to the Non-Ferrous Founders’ Society’s (NFFS) Navy Talent Pipeline Program (TPP), the company was invited by the Maritime Industrial Base to see our products and speak directly to the sailors who use them.
The short Thanksgiving work week was a perfect time to road-trip down to Norfolk, VA, to visit the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) and the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Mahan (DDG 72) whose motto is “Built to Fight.”
The trip was truly unforgettable — especially to witness, up-close and personal Danko Arlington’s vast number of castings that literally support US Naval navigation, aviation, and advanced fire control systems. Even the USS Mahan’s brightly polished 200lb US ship bell was familiar!
Earlier this year, the USS Ford returned from the Eastern Mediterranean after protecting Israel from incoming ballistic missiles and attack drones from the Houthi-controlled Yemen. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Mahan participated in special training exercises with the Ford in the Atlantic.
This unique experience instilled not only a manufacturer’s deep pride but offered a special encounter with officers and enlisted who depend on these systems every day to support their missions and stay out of harms way. Their service, duty, and commitment is remarkable. The tour’s unique and personal connection certainly brings full circle the work we do and underscores how our foundry is so essential to our great Navy and our Nation.
